NCARC 11 March 2021

Membership and Trustees Meeting Minutes:

Due to the continuing Corona virus pandemic (COVID-19) a ZOOM Video Communications, Inc. platform was used for a video meeting over the internet. It was also possible to join the meeting by telephone.

Meeting opened by NCARC Vice President Tom K8DMM at 1907 hours.

The following members joined the video meeting: Tom K8DMM, Dan KB8A, Mary Lou K8MLS, Norb N8KJT, Tom WD8EFF, Heidi WD8EFK, Fred WB8UDA, Paul WB8CYI. By telephone: Joe N8QXC, Steve W8IZ, Rick K8SCI. Guests by video: Tom WB8LCD, Mark KC8FQV, Steve KE8RGA. Later Steve W8IZ was able to join the meeting by video.

There were 8 (eight) members that joined the meeting by video: Three (3) members joined by telephone. Three (3) guests joined by video.

Approval of minutes: Tom K8DMM called for a motion to approve the February 2021 meeting minutes. Fred WB8UDA made a motion. Tom WD8EFF seconded. Motion passed.                               

Treasures report: Treasurer Dan KB8A stated that the club has money in the bank and the bills are paid. Also the club received a donation from the V.F.W. More about the donation will appear under Fundraising.                   

Awards: None

 Sunshine: None

Fundraising: The club received a generous donation from Brookpark-Berea V.F.W. Post 6676. Fred WB8UDA said that the Fundraising committee met four times and is continuing to work on fundraising. The club members thanked Fred WB8UDA and the committee for their continuing efforts to raise money for the club. The Club Secretary sent a thank you letter by U.S. Mail to Brookpark-Berea V.F.W. Post 6676.   

Membership: Dan KB8A said that two amateurs (KB8WUA and KE8PXU) applied for membership under the CQ CQ CQ program and one did not meet the criteria. Discussion followed.  Tom K8DMM called for a motion to accept KE8PXU for membership. Tom WD8EFF seconded. After some discussion about needing to modify the CQ CQ CQ program Tom WD8EFF withdrew his second. More discussion followed. Tom K8DMM called for a motion to modify the CQ CQ CQ program give a minimum twelve (12) month membership. Tom WD8EFF seconded. Motion passed. Tom K8DMM called for a motion to modify the CQ CQ CQ program to allow any amateur who has not been a member for at least two (2) years a twelve (12) month membership. Dan KB8A seconded. Motion passed. Tom K8DMM made a motion to accept KB8WUA as a member. Rick K8SCI seconded. Motion passed. Tom K8DMM made a motion to accept KE8PXU as a member. Rick K8SCI seconded. Motion passed.                                                                                                        

Newsletter: None

Program: Tom K8DMM will present a program about NTSC Broadcast TV after the meeting.

 Website: Rick K8SCI stated that the website has been updated and renewed with full SSC service until 6 February 2024.  Also, the Clubs Domain Name
( n8nc.org )  is renewed thru 6 February 2027. Rick K8SCI paid all fees out of his pocket for these renewals as a gift to the club. The members thanked Rick K8SCI for his efforts and gift to the club.

Two meter net: More people are needed to be net control and also help is needed to broadcast the News Line report. Any volunteers should contact Mary Lou K8MLS.

Education: None

Technical: Tom K8DMM said that the 220 and 440 repeaters are still operating in his basement. He also said the some air flow modifications that need to be done before moving them to the new location.

Field Day: The clubs participation for Field Day is questionable because of the pandemic. Field Day is 26 and 27 June 2021.

Old Business: None

New Business: Norb N8KJT said he has some used 7 amp hour 12 volt batteries to give away. Tom K8DMM asked if Norb N8KJT would set aside 6 batteries for the club to use for Field Day.

Tom K8DMM called for adjournment. Tom WD8EFF made a motion to adjourn. Norb N8KJT seconded. Motion passed. The meeting closed at 1945 hours.

Membership Meeting Minutes:

Meeting opened by NCARC President Steve W8IZ at 1908 hours.

Approval of minutes: Steve W8IZ called for a motion to approve the March 2021 meeting minutes. Tom WD8EFF made a motion. Dan KB8A seconded. Motion passed.

Membership Meeting Minutes:

 Sunshine: Mary Lou K8MLS is recovering from outpatient surgery.

Program: None tonight. Tom K8DMM said in the near future he will do a presentation on Amelia Earhart’s airplane (NR16020) communications system.

 Website: Rick K8SCI stated that the website is up to date.

Education: None

Technical: Norb N8KJT said that the North Royalton location is ready for the 220 and 440 repeaters. Tom K8DMM said that a work party will be needed to move the repeaters. Also Tom K8DMM will need a one week notice so he can disassemble the repeaters from the rack.

Field Day:  Field Day is 26 and 27 June 2021. Fred N8AHS said that he has been talking with Tom K8DMM about having an in person Field Day gathering at the usual site, Fred’s Tree Farm, in Valley City. Fred N8AHS continued saying that the club will operate a 5A Battery station. And that camping will be available and there will be a Pota-potty on site. And masks and social distancing will be observed as of now and could change as Field Day comes closer. Tom K8DMM said that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio proclaimed 26-27 June 2021 as AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS’ APPRECIATION DAYS!!

New Business: The officers and members welcomed new member John W8LYO. Dan KB8A said that if a member would like to see the detailed treasures report to send him an email. Rick K8SCI asked for an end date for the CQ CQ CQ program for the website. Dan KB8A mentioned that the club’s fiscal year ends on 30 June and the telephone line is needed for remote control of the repeater. After some discussion it was decided that there is no end date for the CQ CQ CQ program at this time.

Steve W8IZ called for adjournment. Norb N8KJT made a motion to adjourn. James KE8PXU seconded. Motion passed. The meeting closed at 1930 hours.

There were thirteen (13) members that joined the meeting by video: One (1) member joined by phone. One (1) guest joined by video.

Approval of minutes: Steve W8IZ called for a motion to approve the May 2021 meeting minutes. Tom WD8EFF made a motion. Fred WB8UDA seconded. Motion passed.                            

Treasures report: Treasurer Dan KB8A stated that the club has money in the bank and the bills are paid. Also club dues are due before 30 June 2021 for dues paying members only.” CQ CQ CQ” new members do not pay dues at this time. Dan KB8A also sent a full Treasurers Report by email to members. Dan KB8A also mentioned that the July and August meetings could be held in Bonnie Park because the parks are open again. There was some discussion. Norb N8KJT made a motion to have the July and August meetings at Bonnie Park Pavilion in the Strongsville Metro Park. Fred N8AHS seconded the motion. Motion passed.

 Sunshine: A card of condolences was sent to Joe N8QXC expressing sorrow for the passing of his brother.

Fundraising: Fred WB8UDA is looking into a new source.  

Membership: New member joined the club, Shawn KE8RMV. The officers and members welcome Shawn KE8RMV to the club.

 Website: Rick K8SCI stated that the website is up to date. Rick K8SCI will also check the echo link on the website.

Two meter net: More people are needed to be net control and also help is needed to broadcast the News Line report. Any volunteers should contact Mary Lou K8MLS. Mary Lou K8MLS has a new schedule for the net control operators.

Education: None

Technical: Tom K8DMM said that after Field Day that he and Norb N8KJT will check the antennas for SWR and mechanical condition. Then plan the move of the 220 and 440 repeaters to the new site for some time in July.

Field Day:  Field Day is 26 and 27 June 2021. The Field Day gathering will be at Fred’s Tree Farm in Valley City. Fred N8AHS asked that all who have the batteries, to bring them. After some discussion Tom WD8EFF made a motion to allocate $500.00 for food for Field Day. Norb N8KJT seconded. Motion passed. Also Norb N8KJT will pick up the food. Tom K8DMM said the club has five computers to use for logging purposes. And the computers will be hooked in a wireless network configuration. There was a long discussion about the age of the computers and the outdated XP operating system that they use. And that the computers need to be replaced at some later date. It was agreed that this computer issue will be discussed sometime in the future. Fred N8AHS said that he had ordered the Port-a-Potty.

NCARC 8 July 2021

Trustees Meeting Minutes:

 

The July 2021 meetings were held at the Bonnie Park pavilion in the Strongsville Metro Park. COVID-19 is still present.

Meeting opened by NCARC Vice President Tom K8DMM at 1841 hours.

The following members were present: Fred WB8UDA, Tom K8DMM, Norb N8KJT, Dan KB8A, Joe N8QXC, Shawn KE8RMV, Paul WB8CYI

There were seven (7) members present.

Approval of minutes: Tom K8DMM called for a motion to approve the June 2021 membership meeting minutes. Joe N8QXC made a motion. Norb N8KJT seconded. Motion passed.                            

Treasures report: Treasurer Dan KB8A stated that the club has money in the bank and the bills are paid. Dan KB8A also stated that he completed the State and Federal filings for income tax, plus that a anonymous donation was made to the club and a couple of members made donations with their dues. Fred WB8UDA talked about the last donation from the V.F.W. was for Field Day. Fred WB8UDA said that he is working on a donation for new computers. Discussion followed about what software might be needed for the new computers. Tom K8DMM asked about a budget for the year. Dan KB8A said that the only monthly bill is the telephone bill and that there are some insurance bills at various times during the year.

Fundraising: Fred WB8UDA and the committee are working on it.

Membership: Dan KB8A suggested giving a complimentary membership to Alberta KB8SPR. Fred WB8UDA suggested giving a complimentary membership to Mary KD8NGC. Joe N8QXC made a motion to give a complimentary membership to Alberta KB8SPR. Norb N8KJT seconded. Motion passed. Fred WB8UDA made a motion to give a complimentary membership to Mary KD8NGC. Norb N8KJT seconded. Motion Passed. Tom K8DMM suggested that the club should maybe put in the club bylaws that one of the purposes of the club is to promote electronic communications.

Program: None.

 Website: Tom K8DMM would like to put pictures of Field Day on the web site and asked if anyone has pictures to let him know.

Education: Tom K8DMM suggested that the club train members that are new hams to be net control and other aspects of ham radio.

Technical: Norb N8KJT and Tom K8DMM are working on a schedule to move the 220 and 440 repeaters.

Field Day: Tom K8DMM is checking on what bonus points the club is eligible for such as open to the public, emergency power, and media notices. He also will be talking to Field Day chairman Fred N8AHS about these bonus point items. Tom K8DMM also made diagrams of the Field Day radio equipment layout and antenna layout for future reference.

New Business: Tom K8DMM said that the Field Day equipment is idle for most of the year and suggested that the club might lend some of the equipment to new hams that are members. Discussion followed. It was agreed that more discussion is needed at a later date.

Tom K8DMM called for adjournment. Joe N8QXC made a motion. Norb N8KJT seconded.  Motion passed. The meeting closed at 1945 hours.
